How do you train for triathlons in the winter? You sign up for bike races, that's how!
That's what we decided to do except this wasn't a typical bike race that involved riding a road bike on pavement. This was a "fat bike race" on snow. Fifteen miles of snowy hills to be exact.
Neither of us had done a fat bike race before and I had only been on my fat bike twice before the race. But we have friends in Crested Butte, where the race was held, so we decided to combine visiting them with doing the race. How hard could it be?!
It was very hard! I was out of breath pretty much the entire way. There were a few steep hills and several people walked their bikes up one of the hills, including me. But it was also a lot of fun and we plan to do it again next year (which will be in Leadville!).
